I am planning to discuss this topic and a couple of other related ones
during one of the break-out sessions at the 3DSNASUG meeting March
5-9. DSM Somos(R) has spent a lot of time investigating this question
based on a customer request, and we have found alternative solvents.
Unfortunately, propylene carbonate, isopropyl alcohol and TPM all fail to
meet the AQMD requirements. If you are unable to attend the meeting, I

Southern California AQMD is a little more strict about the environment.
The internal Environmental office does not feel that TPM meets AQMD
rule
1122 section c and d. Thus there is a need to find an alternative way to
clean sla parts. Rule 1122 says that a cleaning material shall have less
than 50 g/l of VOC as used. Or be used in an airtight or airless cleaning
system.
If I want to keep using my RAMCO wash station I need to use something
else
besides TPM. (less than 50 g/l of VOC)
If I want to keep using TPM I need to buy another cleaning system, maybe
an
ultrasonic cleaning system.
