RE: RP for Electronics

Majid,
We have a Printed Circuit Card system that uses a different method. The
base material is an 11"x17" piece of Kapton that is coated with copper.
The sheet has tractor feed holes on the sides. Gerber files of the
circuit are processed by the system software and a printer then travels
over the sheet and deposits a wax pattern where all the traces are. (This
is a lot like some of the RP methods we know, except only one layer is
printed). The sheet is then washed with an etchant which removes all of
the copper except what is under the wax. The wax is cleaned off and the
copper traces are coated with an electroless plating (for solderability).
If the circuit is a single layer flex, then you just have to cut it out
and use it. If it is a multilayer flex or rigid circuit, the Kapton layers
are bonded to each other or to some form of stiffener.
The next step is to put the circuit into a Router/Drill machine. Target
holes are used to register the circuit to the machine platform. The layers
of a multilayer circuit are tied together using pins. The Router/Driller
installs the pins automatically after drilling holes for them. The Router
cuts the finished circuit out of the panel.
. The Router/Driller is also a poor mans CNC for making small parts from
G-10 or other fiber/resin materials.
It is possible to make a complete circuit card in less than a day. They
are not perfect substitutes for the "standard" PWB, but it's hard to beat
speed of the system.
The company that makes the system is called Direct Imaging of Vermont.
They can be reached at (802) 295-3770 or e-mail at Reccher@aol.com.

Subject: RP for Electronics

Hi,

In the world of RP there are some milling machines used for RP of printed
circuit boards. Their software generates a toolpath around all tracks on
the PCB and the machine mills them out to isolate the tracks from the
copper foil which is covering all the circuit board. I am looking to
purchase a used machine and/or software. The major brands in this business
are LPKF and T-Tech.

Also I am looking for different kind of conductive resins. The objective is
to collectively deposit the material and then cure it to make conductive
paths on the surface of the parts.

Please if any one knows of the above items, drops me a line.

Thanks,
Majid.
