This is not really all that new, since it's been available for almost a year now and is based on the RepRap stuff that's been going on for a couple of years now and is completely FREE and opensource. I think they'll need to come out with a higher resolution kit before do-it-your-selfers will be able to make really useful parts. For now, they would still be better off using a nice small desktop milling machine and lathe and maybe getting into casting. Nice to see that young people are going back to traditionally made things though and maybe helping to increase interest in manufacturing things in this country again. Jay Leno also helped to stir up interest in the field of RP when he bought a
$30K Stratasys machine, last year, to help make parts for his many cars (but his shop still uses lots of other machines too).
