"Death of RPML" and the RTAM mail listWe are exploring the possibility of GARPA accepting the responsibility of the rp-ml. You can learn more about the Global Alliance of Rapid Prototyping Associations at www.garpa.org. RTAM/SME and many other associations from around the world are members and supporters of GARPA.

I second the idea of SME taking this on - it's way too valuable a resource to let go, yet I understand that the RPML people have been doing this for a looong time. What would this take? An email campaign to certain SME staff?

I really hope someone or some institution (perhaps SME?) will step up to this challenge - the RPML is an invaluable resource that shouldn't be lost.

    RTAM Mail Listers,

As those of you still on the RPML may have seen, the death of the RPML is greatly exagerated, but
it is having problems keeping going.

For those who aren't on the RPML, here is the email sent out by Ed Grenda yesterday:

Reports of the Death of the RPML have been greatly exaggerated.

After three weeks of silence the RPML is running again thanks to the efforts of Seppo, the technical magician behind this modern miracle. He plugged away until he solved the problem which in this case, involved plugging the power cord of the server back into the wall socket.

But here’s the problem: It took him a couple of weeks to get around to plugging it back in - and we’ve been put on notice that Seppo and Hannu are becoming disinterested parties. Very soon they will be annoyed parties.

That means that the RPML - if it is to continue - better start looking for a new home.

I would think that the best place for it to emigrate to would be to an academic institution, or failing that, a place of higher learning. That’s probably a better choice than allowing it to fall into the hands of a crass commercial entity, who would use it to further a particular point of view, and bend it to grind against the wheel of profit, such as myself.

Let the discussion begin - because if it doesn't the next time the plug on the server gets kicked out of the wall it may stay out.

    Doug again:

Let's hear some discussion both pro and con regarding having the RTAM list replace the RPML.
