FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
PAPERS SOUGHT FOR INTERNAITONAL LASER MEETING
ABSTRACTS DUE BY APRIL 30
ORLANDO, FL - The Laser Institute of America is sseking submissions for
presentation at the 17th International Congress on Applications of Lasers
and Electro-Optics (ICALEO '98), which will be held Nov. 16-19 in Orlando,
FL, USA. The congress consists of the Laser Materials Processing
Conference and the Laser Applications in the Medical Devices Industry
Walt Duley from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada is the
general chair for ICALEO '98.
"Through its interdisciplinary approach, ICALEO provides a unique
opportunity for discussions between researchers in different fields, and
facilitates contacts with the industrial sector," Duley said. "Technical
papers are also of interest to industry, particularly those involved in the
design and implementation of laser technology in manufacturing and
production systems. This year's ICALEO will bring together researchers
with a common goal of finding new and innovative applications of lasers in
these rapidly developing fields."
Jordan Bajor of LocalMed in Palo Alto, CA, and Rajesh Patel of Aradigm
Corp. in Hayward, CA, are co-chairs for the medical devices conference.
Xiangle Chen of GE Corporate R&D in Schedectady, NY, USA; Eckhard Beyer of
Fraunhofer-Institute for Werkstoffphysik in Dresden, Germany; and Isamu
Miyamote of Osaka University in Osaka, Japan serve as co-chairs for the
materials processing conference.
Terry Feeley of Laser Fare is co-chair of the rapid prototyping and rapid
tooling session. He can be reached at TFeeley@compuserve.com or
401-783-9559. His fax number is 401-789-1932.
Papers are sought for the materails processing conference in rapid
prototyping, microfabrication, microprocessing, diode lasers, ultrafast
lasers, welding, electronics, surface modifications, process diagnostics
and sensing, cutting and drilling, process modeling and control, laser
safety, laser systems and applications, and new developments in laser
equipment and technology, Areas of special interest in the medical devices
industry include laser applications for manufacturing stents, catheters,
sensors, implantable devices, and biomaterial interactions. Other topics
include processes such as microfabrication, micromolding, cutting and
drilling, welding, rapid prototyping, wire stripping, and hermatic sealing.
Abstract submission deadline is April 30.
Authors are asked to secure company and/or governmental agency clearance to
present and publish as early as possible. Commitments for travel and
accommodation funding through sponsoring organizations should be obtained
prior to submitting abstracts.
ICALEO '98 is an international forum for the exchange of technical
information between users of lasers or electro-optic technologies in
industrial, government, medical and academic settings, and the scientists,
engineers and technicians developing these technologies and applications.
ICALEO '98 will include technical papers, a poster paper gallery, panel
discussions, short courses and a vendor table-top display.
The Laser Institute of America is the professional society dedicated to
fostering lasers, laser applications and laser safety worldwide.
