Brian, try giving LaserCamm a call. They create large 3D models by laser cutting
templates with interlocking slots. The material used can be anything from
acrylic sheet to plywood. By choosing the appropriate spacing between templates,
you can preserve a lot of detail. Their laser cutting table is very precise.
Very large models are possible since the entire model does not have to fit on
the bed of the machine. LaserCamm is in San Jose CA at 415-324-2515
