Actually, I'm a bit surprised by this. There didn't change much over recent years.

In 2013 there was an article in the New York Times about the dangers of printed guns.[1] The article hinted that it's possible and tempting, but not very practical (print a new gun for every couple of shots). It's also possible to build guns using plumbing hoses or other stuff available at Home Depot.

At about the same time one of the bigger companies demonstrated a gun printed by their metal sintering process. It looked much like the counterpart crafted with traditional methods. And being made from metal, it could certainly shoot.

It's not a new problem. Having the right equipment available, people were always able to manufacture guns without a license.
