Doug,

Very familiar with Revit to 3d printing. I have lectured on it at Autodesk
University. There is an STL exporter by Autodesk but you need to install it
separately. http://labs.autodesk.com/graduates/retire_revit_stl/

The geometry is very good however it still typically requires substantial
prep either in REVIT or post processing before you will get a usable model.

There are several classes of problems that need to be delt with. First set
up a 3d view in Revit - call it something like Model export at 1:100. Then
use the Visibility Graphics filter to turn off those items that you do not
want to appear in your model. (typically plumbing, mechanical, electrical,
probably furniture etc. Best to try to get the main geometry over first
rather than dumping too much. You can always come back and "invert" your
selections and send a few more things. ) Next look at scale. Many items
will be too small to print. A general rule of thumb is anything that is
"hand sized" in the real world will be too small to print: Railings, door
knobs, trellises sunshades etc. Filter these, or do family modifications
to make them survivable. Once you are close, export.

You now have a dump of probably thousands of shells that you need to post
process. We typically shrinkwrap using CADspan, our cloud based shrink
wrapper that is available at CADspan.com. We also make extensive use of
Materiaise Magics for thickening, hollowing etc.

You may find that it is better to use a different export than STL if you
have a postprocessing workflow that can support discrete shells rather than
a triangle soup dump like STL.

Please don't hesitate to write if you need more assistance or want
architectural 3d printing! plans@lgm3d.com

Good luck
