RE: [rp-ml] STL file of a card holder with a hinge

Regarding Chris' note below, I thought I'd mention that the Connex materials have improved recently with the release of their Digital Materials Pack 2<http://www.objet.com/Materials/Connex500_Digital_Materials/>. We've been working extensively with these at GROWit, and found them substantially favorable to the other blends (see the specifications sheets or e-mail me off the forum for details). Also, when it comes to hinges, often your best bet is the Polyjet's (same technology) DurusWhite<http://www.objet.com/Materials/DurusWhite/> material because that simulates polypropylene and has some flex -- this allows for living hinges and so forth.

Hope this helps. Happy Holidays.

Chris

The Eden machines cannot run multiple materials in the same build like the Connex machines can. In my experience the flexible Objet materials do not age well. Their tear strength decreases greatly with UV exposure from natural light.

Happy Christmas and new year to all in the additive / rapid world.

Gaurav,
You should take a look at the Eden(tm) or Connex(tm) from Objet(tm) Geometries. They specialize in multi-material RP machines that are a perfect fit for hinges. You can build a very accurate, solid frame for the hinge -AND- during the same build apply a flexible material in the hinge location. There are 11 different materials to choose from, including blending of different materials to fit your exact needs. Try looking up your local Objet(tm) sales office and contact them for .STL models. I'm sure they would be very happy to assist you.

Sincerely,

Chris Calven

Subject: [rp-ml] STL file of a card holder with a hinge

Hello everyone,

I am working on the design-material-process properties of hinges and I found a card-holder which has a mechanical hinge (made on a FDM Stratasys machine) but unfortunately I don't have the STL file for it. I would be grateful if someone could send it to me.

I am also looking for any other information (design features, problematic areas, materials, etc) you could give me regarding hinges made by AM techniques.

Thanks,
Gaurav
