This is my response to Terry Wohler's post about Rhino and its STL
fixing tools:

During the last 6 years working for a Custom Injection Molding House, I
have been using SolidWorks to develop products for the Plastics
Industry, and have been using Materialise's Magics software to generate
quotes, view and fix STL files, drive a 3D Systems ThermoJet solid
object printer, create mold components, build EDM electrodes, and have
even used it to machine STL files.

I also have had occasions to use Rhino from time-to-time. So when I saw
the posting that they added STL fixing tools, I was intrigued. I
downloaded the new version of Rhino, the Bonus Tools, and the Tutorial.
However after evaluating everything, I would have to say that the Rhino
capabilities are interesting, but are only basic when compared to Magics
RP's capabilities.

In the new version of Magics (V 9.5) there is a fixing wizard that will
walk the user through the steps necessary to repair a bad STL file. So,
one might want to download it at
http://www.materialise.com/software/registration_ENG.html and give it a try!
