I've seen this with Objet parts, this is a 4" part with copper:
http://www.bathsheba.com/sculpture/antipot/. The brown area is the
original coating with a patina, and the copper area was filed down for
a bright finish.

At the bottom of this page, http://www.bathsheba.com/misc/DSM_poster.html
is an SLA part with nickel plating, no postprocessing was done with this.

Repliform did the electroforming, and I hope these pictures will
convince you that Sean is extraordinarily good at it.
