Breakthrough in Biotechnologies: With RMPD- microFLUIDIK capillary forces
are replacing all electrically driven pumps. The smart behaviour of
capillaries, hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials alone allow a three
dimensional system of, for example, reservoirs, reaction chambers,
measurement chambers, filling and ventilation channels, to perform
biological and chemical processes in shortest time. Basic elements of the
smart microfludic systems are modular chip systems with micro-capillaries
and chambers, based on RMPD. The chambers are filled with biological and
chemical substances, and are sealed using a proprietary procedure developed
by microTEC. Appropriately stored these chips can be used as a lab for
research or other tasks. Chip size is 8 x 8 x 1 millimeter comprising a
filling chamber and 6 radially aligned three dimensional fluidic systems.
Each of the 6 systems consists of 2 serial reaction and measurement
chambers, with a diameter of 300 micrometers and 1 millimeter depth. For
applications in analytics it is of advantage, that the liquid automatically
fills all cham-bers of the chip, continously and without bubbles due to
capillary forces and hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials. For the first
time this new systems allows bubble free filling of 2 serial and sealed
chambers.
