The real issue is units of measure:
12 oz. is both a volume and weight. Weight = volume if water is the fluid, or
specific gravity = 1. A lot of commentary for a high school physics question.
(Perhaps Andrew can comment on the state of public education and whether this
question can or can't be answered prior to post-grad school.)
