Conference Focuses on Metal Powder Deposition for Rapid Manufacturing

New developments in rapid manufacturing will be featured at the 2002
International Conference on Metal Powder Deposition for Rapid
Manufacturing, April 8-10 in San Antonio, Texas. Metal Powder
Deposition has made significant strides in the field of Rapid
Manufacturing. While the idea of making components directly through the
deposition of metal powder is not new, the combination computer
controlled systems and accurately controlled heat sources (e.g., lasers,
electron-beams, plasma spray, and microwaves) have now made these
technologies viable for use in today's industry.

Sponsored by the Metal Powder Industries Federation, the conference
program will include 12 sessions on topics such as laser powder
deposition, laser cladding/surface modifications and rapid prototyping.
Keynote speakers will provide information on spray technologies for
metal powder deposition; history of laser fabrication; solid freeform
fabrication and future space missions and laser deposited materials.
