The following studentships have become available within the Centre for
Rapid Design and Manufacture:
Research Studentship in Applied Materials, leading to a Ph.D.
A graduate with a good honours degree in Materials Science is required
now to work on a project at CRDM involving the research into metal
powder systems, as part of an R&D programme on solid freeform
fabrication. A strong knowledge of materials science is essential. The
successful candidate will be highly motivated and will be able to attend
courses in relevant disciplines, in particular rapid prototyping
techniques.
Research Studentship in Applied Electrochemistry, leading to a Ph.D.
A graduate with a good honours degree in Chemistry or Materials Science
is required, who wishes to develop their expertise in advanced
manufacturing technologies involving the application of electroforming
to toolmaking.The suitable candidate will have knowledge and experience
in either electrochemistry and/or physical metallurgy and will be
interested in developing and applying electrochemical theory and
practice to Rapid Prototyping and Tooling technology. Training in
relevant disiplines will be given.

The Centre for Rapid Design and Manufacture (CRDM) is a recognised
Centre of Excellence in Advanced Toolmaking and rapid prototyping
technologies and works closely with local industry. It forms part of
the Faculty of Technology at the Buckinghamshire Chilterns University
College and is very well resourced.
