RE: Interrogating .stl files

Steve,

Algorithms can be written to do this. A student of mine, Xiuzhi Qu, has
written code to make this possible using our own viewer, and I am sure the
code could be modified to do this easily as a stand-alone "interrogator"
program which outputs the information of interest. Just about anyone who
has done programming with STL files could develop a software interrogator
capable of doing this.

  Subject: Interrogating .stl files

Is there any way to interrogate an .stl file to get information such as X,
Y, Z, volume, surface area without having to bring it up in a viewer like
SolidView?
