True it is using bigger equipment bigger trucks, bigger shovels and bigger draglines and these are dispatched with high tech systems including GPS tracking and software but the basic methods have not changed.

Underground mining has proven to be more energy efficient and less disruptive to the environment than surface mining. Moreover, with proper engineering, underground methods are applicable in many mining situations today.

Softwall Equipment Corporation Receives Exclusive Agreement with IMC Phosphates Company on New Softwall Mining Technology
SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. patent office has issued Inventor Randall D. Peterson of Sandy, Utah and assignee IMC Phosphates Company (formerly IMC-Agrico Company), Patent #6,086,159 which covers mining technology and the specialized equipment known as the Softwall Mining Method and Device (``Softwall Method''). IMC Phosphates Company is one of the world's largest producers of phosphate fertilizer products and has executed a letter of intent to grant Peterson exclusive license to develop, market and license this technology in non-phosphate mining applications worldwide. Peterson is the President of Softwall Equipment Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: SWLL - news) and granted the Company exclusive license to the technology.

The Softwall Method includes the process of extracting slurryable ore from a rectangular panel using trenched access. The Softwall Device includes special equipment combining proven longwall and hydraulic mining methods for mining earthy and soft shallow deposits. The method is a potential break-through in mining methods technology for the special earthy conditions for which it is suited and is intended to provide a high production yet environmentally responsible alternative to strip mining. The Softwall concept combines subsurface longwall and hydraulic mining and backfill injection systems for sluicing unconsolidated, soft, shallow or earthy ground. Targeted applications include but are not limited to: Tar sands, secondary tailings recovery and handling, mineral sands and surface applications in windrow reclaim. Other non-mining, civil, municipal and agricultural uses are also anticipated. The Company believes that, for deposits with ore and ground conditions amenable to hydraulic mining and slurry transpo
rt, the method has some marked economic and environmental advantages over strip mining.

The company intends to market the Softwall Method in the U.S. and other primary mining countries of the world where IMC Phosphates has agreed to maintain patent protection and to share in its potential success.

Softwall Equipment Corporation is a mining methods and equipment company introducing innovative, yet practical and environmentally responsible alternatives to all types of strip mining, materials handling and soil extraction. Softwall is a public company with headquarters in Sandy, Utah.
