The thread on the 1K 3D fax machine got me to thinking...
The proliferation of digital cameras (2D) is leading to
a growing number of companies offering to "develop"
(read print) digital pictures over the internet.
If people get used to sending 2D pictures over the
internet for printing, then perhaps they will be interested
in getting 3D prints the same way:
e.g. send a 2D image and intensity scale to produce 3D
or,
take a 3D picture (some time in the future), and
get that printed in polymer, metal, ceramic or fibre.
Are there any service bureaus currently offering the
3D printing services to the consumer market?
