You can resort to a bit of programming or even an
Excel. Assuming a set of points describing a single closed
polygonal region, then the area can be computed as follows:

Area = 0.5 * ( x1y2 - x2y1 + ... + xny1 - x1yn );

This value will be positive for right-handed (CCW) polygons and
negative for left-handed (CW) polygons. Sum the areas of each
polygon to determine the total area of a layer.
