Karl,

As far as I know (which isn't very much) Alias does not support solids. It
is up to the user to make sure that the file is water-tight and that all the
surfaces face the right way.

Subject: Alias to stl file conversions....

Hello all,

It's kind of quiet out there after all the furry of earlier this week so
here is something else to talk about:

I recently received an .stl file that was generated from Alias and the file
was probably the worst (is that a word?) thing I had ever seen. I do not
know any thing about this software and the guy that uses it knows nothing
about writing files other then the native format. Do any of you use this
software for .stl file generation and if so what are you doing to get at
least close to usable files? IGES out has yielded the same results. We
have come to the conclusion that the software does a really bad job of
closing the object.

To give you an idea of how bad the last file was it took about 3 full 8 hour
days to clean the file up in Magics!

Any help would be great!

Karl Denton
