Dear All,

is there anybody who knows a vendor of CNC machines or ROBOTS
to mill a comlex 3D-body out of stone where the data is been taken from STL or DXF files.

Dear Berthold,

You should split up the question into two parts:
1st - software that can machine from STL or DXF.
2nd - a CNC milling machine that can handle stone.
(as the interface from CAM software to machine is easy to make).

On the first point: several good standard CAM software packages can
machine complex STL files as one of their functions. We do offer a lowcost
CAM package called DeskProto that has been specially developed
for this purpose.

On the second point: I think you will need a conventional machine,
as the forces needed to machine stone are too large for a robot (which
has a less stiff construction). There are manufacturers of such
machines: we once used such a machine (subcontracted an Italian
marble factory) to machine a human statue in white marble (from
STL data). See the Galleray page on our Website, example 'Torso').
They used a cutter with diamond, and much water as a coolant.

Do contact me in case you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Lex Lennings.
