Wayne/Andy:

Gee, is the SLA7000 worth it? In a word, YES! Let's see, I'm making 3
times the number of parts I used to with an SLA500. This is an unfair
comparison as I was running highly modified Ciba SL5180 build parameters on
the 500 (to build faster) and in the 7000, I'm running pretty much default
with Ciba SL7510.

Let's see 3 X US $500,000 = US$1,500,000 for 3 SLA500/5000's. One SLA-7000
= US$800,000. If I am still conscious, I think the 7000 is the better deal
and worth the extra $200-300K.

Running the numbers with used SLA500's may bring this a bit closer to parity
depending on what's important to you (like cash flow?). So, I agree, the
7000 and the SS Lasers have increased the perceived value of the used SLA500
market.

Even with some of the difficulties I'm having today (recent postings), I
still like where we are now compared to a year ago.

Is the SLA -7000 worth the extra cost?
In a word NO.
It is basically an SLA-5000 as far as capacity, build envelope, goes. It
even
uses many of the same parts. With the exception of one major advanced
feature, the ability to vary the spot size. That will improve the throughput

for some but not all build styles. Worth the extra $200~300K? Now 3D could
have made this feature available as an upgrade for the entire line. But they

have decided not to retrofit Diode lasers, improved scanning systems, and
other recent developments. As has been stated they are in the business of
selling new machines. This would make for an opportunity for 3rd party
suppliers. One can only hope. The introduction of the SLA-7000, along with
the availability of Diode lasers from 3rd parties, has done one thing, it
has
really heated up the market for used SLA-500's.
