We were advised long ago that standard isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol is approx.
30% water, and that is what swells QC. We always use reagent grade alcohol
(from a chemical supply house), which is 99% pure alcohol. Use it sparingly -
as Michael says, never dip QC parts.
