If there is serious consideration of updating the ml to a news group, I would
recommend looking
at the following news server software. - http://netwinsite.com/ . They used to
have some sample
implementations. UGSolutions implemented it several month ago.

It can been used with a news reader as well as configured to work with a web
browser. The latter
works well with firewalls that disallow news groups. Authentication can also be
implemented.

The news group approach could allow different special interests to be assigned
and could lead
to less time required to scan messages. i.e.

rp -> materials
rp -> processes
rp -> secondary processes
rp -> conferences
rp -> what ever could be agreed on

Just a thought. Curiously awaiting additional thoughts...
