What an interesting comment, Ed. I don't know if you meant it this way,
but Eric Drexler has been talking about nanotechnology leading to future
"product seeds" that contain the programming for a product and enough
nanoassemblers to build more nanoassemblers that build more nanoassemblers
that eventually become the product. It's exactly how an embryo works, and
it's an exciting vision of the future of fabbers, where the fabber is little
more than a computer program and a few kernel atoms that grow themselves
into any desired product.
But one question, Ed. If you could do this, why would you grow a Buick?
