I use CoCreate SolidDesigner which allows you to create "Shared Parts". The
software loads one copy of the model into memory but will graphically
display the repetitive parts. If any one of the shared parts is modified,
all the parts update. This works great for high density connectors or
fasteners in assemblies. SolidDesigner is also a non-history based
modeler...so I can iterate or make design changes for months and my part
file size could actually get smaller. However when you have to generate the
.STL file you have to unite all the shared parts if you want to get one .STL
file.
