To compound the problem, a Senate minority, lead by Kenstarrius, took time
out from pursuing accusations of impropriety by the Emperor with a certain
slave girl, numbered ML [1050], consulted with exiled Greek philosophers
Hemorrhoides and Testiclees, who argued from a non-Pythagorean viewpoint,
that the oi polloi would not understand the year 'zero', and therefore AD or
CE should start with 1. Thus Y1K was easier to solve, though it was
recognized and debated at length that millenia would start at 1001, 2001,
etc., and confusion would arise because of these not being nice round
numbers. The Romans issued a caveat, the Greeks passed the Hi-C hemlock
around, put on their Nike's, in honour of their hosts, and waited for the
arrival of a comet portended in the East.
