In preparation for publication of 3D Rapid Prototyping Patents 99, we have
examined the growth in rapid prototyping patents issued in the U.S. since
1994. Here is the data:

Year Number Issued

1998 108
1997 78
1996 65
1995 43
1994 37

As you may observe, the annual issue rate of RP patents has TRIPLED between
1994 and 1998. It would appear that this technology area has a lot of growth
left, even though we have seen a slow down in some parts of the business over
the last year.
