Although they will not be record breakers, your CATIA - ADD will run fine on the current configuration of the O2's.

Subject: CATIA on SGI O2?

Hello all,

I have two SGI O2 R5000 systems (about a year old) that will be soon
unemployed when Maestro NT arrives, so I want make them CATIA
workstations (soilds/surface design & limited FEA analysis). I am
wondering if the R5000 is powerful enough to handle it....upgrading the
CPU is not an option as I've been told by SGI that I cannot upgrade the
R5000 to an R10000.

The boxes in question are currently 180Mhz (can be upgraded to 200Mhz,
but I doubt the difference would be noticable, esp. for US$2500ea!).
There is 256Mb RAM installed now, but can be upgraded to 1Gb (or is 256
enough?). Is it worthwhile to upgrade to IRIX 6.5 from 6.3?

Anybody have any suggestions, or am I worrying for nothing?

Cheers and Happy Holidays to One & All!
