I think it would depend which CAD program you are using. You would have to
check to see if the program supports any unusual trackballs. Most
Win95/WinNT programs will treat it like a mouse (which is all a trackball
is really, it's just upside down). Higher end and some mid-range CAD
programs usually support the Spaceball or Logitech Magellan (both about
$500), but these devices are far superior to a standard mouse/trackball
interface, however not all CAD programs support their use. The best advice
I can give you is to check with your CAD vendor. If you really want a
trackball for other applications, make sure you can install both a mouse
and a trackball, in case your CAD program acts up.
