Hello all...

I too was able to delete the attachment prior to opening it I did however
open the email. It concerns me that the sender did not check his system
prior to sending out an email to the masses.

With a list that is as international as this one is, it will be next to
impossible to enforce any of the suggestions listed below! I would say
that it is OUR responsibility to see to it that files are clean prior to
sending them. This list is open to everybody and is not the property of
some R&D facility or corporation and as such needs to be treated as an
open system. To ask that any of the below listed items be implemented
would require a substantial amount of time from the list manager and I'm
not sure that we have the right to ask that of him or her!

As stated above it is the responsibility of all of us to ensure that we
are virus free. As for getting listings about functions and seminars
about various events I welcome them EVEN if I cannot attend. It gives me
a sense of just what is going on around the world with a technology that
I use and have turned into my carrier.

Dear listers and Owner

As you can see it, I am back to my point again, the sending of files to
everybody is still a problem for many reasons. Many of us we do not keep
up
with the latest Antivirus program for economic and several other reasons.
I
was one of the luckiest that erased the mail and file without to open it,
because I don't have antivirus programs.

Just think about this, it is very easy to send an invitation to everybody
to
a presentation of a program in central or west the States, but how many
people can really handle to move that far (if we are listers in Europe,
Malaysia, South America, etc.) I rather suggest to mention to everybody
about this " demonstration " and send to the ones that can really go the
file, and do not bother the rest of the listers.

We have to be more conscious and do not send files to everybody without
asking if they wanted or not. Maybe this is a good time to do something
about it, something like in force some rules to the sending info to the
list.
I work for a relatively large R&D center, and we have to ask permission
to
the Netmaster before sending a mail to "everybody", and in my opinion is
working fine, we don't have too much rubbish mail moving around.
so I suggest in a constructive way some ideas.

1.- In force virus checking before sending files.

2. Ask the owner if we can send to everybody a file.

3. send files to "everybody" only if there is the real possibility that
everybody may like it (something very difficult to judge in my opinion),
 or
ask if everybody would like to receive it.
(this can be nasty because there is going to be a lot of answers
jamming
the mail saying YES I WANT IT)the trick in here is that we should send
the
answer directly to the one offering the file and not to everybody in the
list.

3.- Place the files in a site like Elaine kindly offered a few weeks
ago,
and anybody interested can go and download it.

4.- ... put your's and let's have a Nice and civilized mail list.
