Many people ask for this list and I would appreciate it if others would add to
and help refine the following information. Many companies use this
information
to help compare and set RP salaries. I NEVER release anyone's name or company
with any data given so please help fill in the blanks......thanks for
everyone's help.

Data as of November 18, 1998

RP Parts finisher:
Salary range: $8 to $14 per hour.
Job description: The finishing of SLA parts using sanding paper, files, and
power tools, close attention to details.
Education:

Inside Sales:
Salary range: $20k to 35k
Job description: Work closely with sales staff, and customers, create quotes
and do follow-ups.
Education:

RP Specialist:
Salary range: $30k to 60k
Job description: Maintain and manage RP equipment
Education:

LOM Operator:
Salary Range:
Job description: Motivated individual to operate, maintain, and manage their
SLA-250 and LOM-2030. Should be familiar with at least one of the R/P
technologies. Knowledge of ProEngineer or similar 3D CAD system a plus.
Experienced with common shop equipment, machinery, silicone molding/RIM
casting
and model making skills a plus. Individual should be versatile and willing to
expand their skill set.
Education:

Senior Model Maker
Salary Range:
Job description: The successful candidate should be experienced in traditional
pattern fabrication, concept modeling, SLA/LOM finishing, RTV mold
construction, urethane casting and cast part finishing. The candidate should
also be innovative, creative, versatile and willing to expand their skill set.
Education:

Division Head of RP&M
Salary range: $80,000-110,000
Job description: Set up and run the day-to-day activities of the division
(which is also a service bureau to outside customers), including scheduling,
negotiation, limited bookkeeping, sales projections, etc. Transfer
knowledge of
RP&M to local staff, including tips & tricks used in SL, LOM, metal casting,
plastic casting, CAD/CAM/CAE.
Education requirements: BSME heavy on manufacturing.

Position: Account Manager
Salary Range:
Job Description: An experienced and motivated individual. Responsible for
developing new accounts along with maintaining existing customers, managing
projects and developing quotes. The ideal candidate will have experience
utilizing various prototyping methods to solve customer problems and have a
product development background while having a good understanding of the
product
development process.
Education: Bachelors degree, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
 

RP Technician:
Salary Range: 35k
Job Description: Motivated, self-starter with 6 months minimum experience with
3D Systems StereoLithography equipment (setup and part finishing), UNIX/DOS
proficiency, and 3D solids CAD experience (preferably Pro/Engineer or
Unigraphics). Strong mechanical aptitude, ability to work with hand and power
tools and problem solving abilities are necessary. Position responsibilities
include part setup, SL equipment operation and part post-processing.
Education:

Field Service Representative:
Salary Range: $36K - $48K
Job Description: Provide troubleshooting support for customers. Travel
extensively to customer sites to perform routine maintenance, installation and
preventative maintenance of machines. Must possess excellent communication
skills, and have the ability to work
independently with minimal supervision. Knowledge of electro/mechanical
hardware and electronic circuit theory is required along with the ability to
read and interpret system schematic diagrams, engineering drawings, and
handbooks. Experienced in the operation and use of a variety of diagnostic
equipment. Experience in Customer Service is required. A working knowledge of
Windows, UNIX and PLC code is a plus.
Education: Technical degree with 2 to 4 years field service experience
preferred.

Rapid Prototyping (RP) Technician:
Salary Range: 35-37k
Job Description: Computer literacy and familiarity (Windows environment); UNIX
experience a plus. 3D visualization capability (CAD or drafting experience
preferred). Good verbal and written communication skills. Strong initiative /
ability to work with minimal supervision. High level of attention to detail,
and extremely thorough.
Responsibilities: Orientation of parts for the SLA and SLS processes.
Build/part layout, preparation, starting and monitoring of SLA and SLS
processes. Quality Control; measuring parts, working with data in
spreadsheets
and databases. Interface with Lab Technicians and Shop Personnel. Minor
maintenance and servicing of RP Systems.
Education: Two years college; Associates degree or equivalent (technical
preferred)

NorthEast RP Engineer: $49K (8 Years Experience)

RP Program Manager
Salary: $55K
Job Description: one SLA and do work for a number of sites. The technician who
operates the machine, preps files, cleans up parts, etc reports. 7 yrs
experience in RP
Education: a BSME and an MS in IMSE.

RP Everything (except CAD)$47,373
Job Description: two RP machines, Build models of mechanical parts from CAD
design data using Rapid Prototyping equipment. Use system software to prepare
input data. Schedule work to meet customer requirements. Keep records of
incoming jobs and archives of data files. Comply with environmental and
safety
requirements.
Minimum Skills: Familiarity with rudimentary DOS or UNIX commands. Familiarity
with 3D CAD packages. Background as machine shop bench mechanic on small
articles or as hobbyist model builder. Chemical handling and safety procedures
equivalent to high school level chemistry lab experience. Additional Skills
Desired: System administrator level knowledge of DOS and UNIX operating
systems. Parametric and explicit solids design with ComputerVison.
Self-motivated with ability to resolve problems without intervention.
Additional Job Requirements: Adherence to chemical handling and lab safety
procedures. Training in proper handling of hazardous materials and disposal of
hazardous waste. Record keeping and administrative duties, ordering of
materials and supplies. Must be able to perform detailed finishing of small
and
delicate parts using hand tools. Equipment maintenance and repairs,
housekeeping. Computer file maintenance. Due to the nature of the chemicals
used, this job is not recommended for wearers of contact lenses.

Job Description: Will clean machine, perform rough break-out, will set up
build, schedule part builds, verify shrinkage, etc.
Education is not important. Good math and spacial skills needed for higher
salary.

RP Manager:
Salary: $45-60k
Job Description: For a large number of machines, with control of customer
service, with at least 5 years experience
Education: ME or equiv. degree and experience.

RP post processor: $12/hr. is good average.
RP CAD: $25/hr for Pro/E trained draftsman (or woman)
RP technician $7/hr. for cleanup, etc., $10/hr. for build maintenance.

RP Manager: 85K, Post-grad. Aero, M. Eng., ~20 yr. exp., Mech. Design fab &

Rapid Prototyping Sales Manager
Salary Range:
Job Description: Remote salesman who is a highly motivated self starter having
the ability to work with distributors and develop new accounts while working
with little supervision. Minimum of five years experience in all aspects of
selling with the ability to put together detailed sales forecasting. Direct
experience with system solution sales to medium and large companies such as
automotive, aerospace, machine tools, electronics and heavy equipment.
Additionally, will understand manufacturer’s applications, CAD, CAM, CAE, 3D
modeling, casting, molding, sand casting, CNC Tooling.
Education: Bachelors degree.

Design engineer/network administrator/rapid prototyping (director, operator,
and tour guide. Salary Range: 57K / year
Job Description: Mechanical and Electro-mechanical design (mostly using Pro/E
and Mechanical. Sys Admin for 125+ users (Novell, IRIX, Win95 and NT operating

manufacturability, expected quality, cost effectiveness, shop capabilities,
user skills, safety, and ergonomics. Produce electronic tools, provide
technical support, and furnish N/C programs and rapid prototype (e.g.
StereoLithography) models to tooling and experimental departments for
machining
and fabrication of master tooling, assembly tooling, metal removal fixtures,
forming tools, molds and mold patterns, inspection equipment, etc. Coordinate
with product engineering, advanced manufacturing engineering, production

Project Management Engineer:
Salary: 65-80k
Job Description: Technically oriented person to manage product development
projects in a fast paced environment. Knowledge of plastic part and tool
design
is needed as well as familiarity with plastic processing. Years of experience
not required, entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to take risks desired.
Must be creative in problem solving and effective in communicating your ideas
to customers and staff. Must also be resourceful in planning and effectively
completing projects.

Senior Mechanical / Machinist Technician
Salary range: 27K to 38.5K
Job description: Formal and informal instruction of upper undergrad., grad.,
and post-doc. students, faculty, and staff. Continuing Ed. for engineers in
industry. Instruction involves manufacturing methods, equipment utilization,
tooling, and design for manufacturibility, design of space flight hardware,
and
other topics, on an as-needed basis. Other duties include manufacturing flight
hardware and other devices and systems for student and faculty research
projects. Responsible for the repair and maintenance of Dept. and
College-owned
laboratory equipment. Other duties on an as-required basis.Education
requirements: BS in ME + 5 yr. in related machining field or 2 yr. technical
training +10(or more) yr. as toolmaker, instrument maker or modelmaker and

Model making, Mold - making, & Model finishing:

Job description: Skilled hand-finishing of Stereolithography models (including
ability to work to tolerances of ± .005") and RTV mold creation.
