Dear RP-World,

The test object StL file just sent out by Chatham Research to people who requested it is interesting. It is a simple hex
screw. It does challenge fabricators in an area that has usually been ignored in previous test objects: the ability to do
threads. But this object is far from testing the full complement of features that a good fabber should be capable of. Even in
testing the ability to do threads, one should likewise test female threads as well as male. The suggestion of testing the
fabricator by screwing the fabbed screw into a standard nut is an excellent one. But the converse test should also be
performed: Fab the corresponding nut and then screw a standard screw into it.

In short, this item is a worthwhile addition to the literature of fabricator test objects, but is not itself a sufficient
test of a fabricator's capability.

Best regards,
Marshall Burns
