Bert & Matt,
I posted a message to the list a month or so ago on a similar technique
from a company called Eyetronics (http://www.eyetronics.com/) who
developed the ShapeSnatcher. The technique's software analyses a
photograph to determine the objects shape and therefore build up a
three-dimensional model. Eyetronics claim, "Our system can be set up in
5 min or less and gives results as good as, if not better than, a laser
scanner."
The cost of the package is US$700 per year.
Put them to the test!!!!!
Allan.
