This is my first post. This might not be the best way to start it off, but
hey, might as well make a splash...
I don't mind you extholling the virtues of From Z, but DON'T knock Rhino.
You obviously havnen't used it in a long time, and/or are trying to sell
your own product. I've used both and I know people who love Form Z(mostly
'cause they're Mac addicts so there isn't really anything else,) but I'm
sorry, for design-related stuff there's not much comparison. The only
products better at what Rhino does (NURBS surface/solid modeling)cost over
$20,000 US. It's rock-solid stable, tight, and blazing fast, both in
performance(even though V1 lacks OpenGL support)and interface. It's just
about the best-made, best-supported piece of software available today--and
it's not even available commercially yet--with the most fanatical group of
devoted users. Check out http://solidsmodeling.com/ to see how some Pro/E
whiz is using it for animation, even though it lacks such capabilities.
I'm a designer and I use it with Pro/E as a conceptual tool and for
complex surfacing, as well as an STL translator(there's nothing short of
dedicated conversion software with more complete and robust file transfer.)
Form Z may be more suitable for some stuff, but make no mistake, Rhino's
rewriting the rules for 3D.
