Yes Karl your right, however the focus of the research as I understand the original request is to make a something that is a cross between a copier and a low-profile 3D printer at the copier cost level.

The biggest challenge is not only the printing but the routine translation of 2D data into quality 3D tactile info that is understandable to the blind - all on a machine that can be operated by anyone!

The results of the work should benefit the RP community as it should aim at reducing the cost per unit, remember the Epson dialogue here not too long ago.
