A bit late, but maybe worthwhile to look at:

One of my students designed a radial axis milling machine, to carve
styrene from a CT scan for radiation or X-ray treatment purposes.

Its draw-back is that the shadow-area is not milled. However, it sure
makes beautiful carvings.
