stl files also have another use.
I have been told that they are used by Moldflow Part Advisor and CMold
Quickfill for filling analysis.
These are programs that are embedded directly into many CAD systems and can
be started with the click of a button.
They run inside the native CAD GUI rather than in a separate session.
