DTM Targets Short-Run Tooling Applications with New Copper Polyamide Material
                            (PR Newswire; 05/19/98)

AUSTIN, Texas, and HILDEN, Germany, May 19 /PRNewswire/ A new material
from DTM (Nasdaq: DTMC) (http://www.dtm-corp.com) will allow manufacturers
to rapidly produce small numbers of parts in the material of their choice
for testing and concept evaluation, drastically reducing product cycle time
and providing more accurate assessments of the finished parts. Copper
Polyamide, part of the RapidTool(TM) family of products, is designed for
use with DTM's Sinterstation(R) platforms for rapid prototyping and
manufacturing. The material will be available for shipment in June.

"Copper Polyamide provides an ideal solution for short-run tooling
applications and helps DTM meet customer needs for a family of rapid
prototyping solutions from functional modeling to prototyping and pre-
production tooling," says Kevin McAlea, vice president of marketing for
DTM.

About Copper Polyamide
Copper Polyamide, a new metal-plastic composite, is designed for short-run
tooling applications. Because there is no furnace process, the turnaround
time to produce unfinished mold inserts can be as little as a day. These
composite mold inserts are machinable and can be finished by wet sanding.

Copper Polyamide allows users to mold several hundred parts from common
plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene and ABS. The parts then can be
used for functional testing, UL testing, and other evaluations before
proceeding to production. Because the mold inserts can be produced quickly,
designs can be rapidly updated based on test data and new parts fashioned
for additional review.

Copper Polyamide's heat resistance and thermal conductivity are superior to
most plastic tooling materials. As a result, it is possible to mold parts
with cycle times approaching production values. These prototype plastic
parts have properties similar to production parts, unlike those molded with
extended cycle times.

While Copper Polyamide was developed as a product for short-run tooling
applications, there has also been considerable interest in using the
material to produce "metal-like" parts that have the durability of DTM's
traditional nylon products with improved mechanical stiffness and thermal
conductivity.

DTM 's products are sold, serviced, and supported directly through DTM in
North America, Europe and the Pacific Rim. DTM products are also available
through an extensive network of international resellers and distributors
worldwide.
