What is 3D RP Patents 98.1?
3D Rapid Prototyping Patents 98.1 is a database and search software system for
quick access to high quality copies of more than 250 US patents in the area of
three dimensional rapid prototyping. The database is in a CD ROM (the database
is in excess of 500 million bytes) format for Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0. The
database will be current as of June 1, 1998. Adobe's Acrobat Reader (with
search) is included in the CD ROM.
3D RP Patents 98.1 should be of interest to all business and technical
professionals in the technology area of three dimensional rapid prototyping or
solid freeform fabrication. If you were to purchase the same patents from the
US Patent Office in a paper form, the price would be more than $800--and would
require a complete bookcase to hold the 9000+ pages. With 3D RP Patents, all
of these pages are stored on one CD ROM and are full text searchable.
Once you have installed the Acrobat Reader, you can access all the patents
contained in the CD ROM. These patents have been stored in a PDF format to
retain the high image quality of the original patents, while providing a full
text search capability.
How do I use 3D RP Patents 98.1?
Patent Abstracts
Typically, the first document (file) to retrieve is called Abstracts. This
document contains the first page (including graphics) of all of the patents
contained in the CD ROM. Abstracts includes a Table of Contents that is linked
to each of the pages within the Abstracts document. To use the linkage feature
in the Table of Contents, all you need to do is to put your mouse on the
patent number and click once. This action will move you to the first page of
that patent within the Abstract document. If you want to retrieve the full
patent, move your cursor to the highlighted patent number at the upper right
hand side of the Abstract page and click once. This action will retrieve the
full patent. To back up at any time, select the previous view button within
Acrobat Reader to retrieve the previous view.
Find
Once you have opened the Abstracts or a patent within Acrobat Reader, you can
use the Find command found under the Tools button to perform a full text
search of the document.
Search
To perform a full text search against all the documents contained in the CD
ROM, move to the Tools button of Acrobat Reader and select Search. A dialogue
box opens to provide you with the ability to perform a full text search of all
patents on the CD ROM within a few seconds. The Acrobat Search capability
provides for simple text search or more complex logical searches (e.g. Hull
AND curl).
Notes
If you copy the CD ROM to your hard drive, notes can be written on any
retrieved page, if you own or buy Acrobat Exchange. Acrobat Exchange is one of
the components of Adobe Acrobat that can be purchased directly from Adobe, or
from most computer software companies (e.g. PC Connection, CompUSA).
