Re: high temperature SLA resin

We are doing some Direct AIM tooling trials and have discovered that the
SL5190 resin (SLA-350/10) softens at high temperature, but does not
melt. We heated a small block of steel to 530F and placed it on the
surface of an AIM tool insert (with metal alloy backing) and observed
that the alloy did not melt. The SLA material softened somewhat but did
not deform unless substantial stress was applied. After the block was
removed, the SLA material cooled to room temperature and seemed to be as
good as new. This is probably a confirmation of the way the resin reacts
to thermoplastic molding conditions within the tool itself. Good luck.
