                              NEWS RELEASE

Summary: Sanders Prototype, Inc. receives Department of Commerce grant

Wilton, NH (October 23, 1997) – Sanders Prototype, Inc. announced
today that it has received a $1,990,000 grant from the Advanced Technology
Program office within the U. S. Department of Commerce to conduct research
and development for a Motor Vehicle Rapid ToolMaker System (MVRTM). The
grant was one of ten awarded from a field of 62 proposals for the Motor
Vehicle Manufacturing Technology (97-02) competition conducted by the
National Institute of Science and Technology. The program is aimed at making
U. S. automotive companies more competitive and responsive in the world market.

An extension of the company’s current ModelMaker™ system
technology, Sanders Prototype (SPI) will develop a low cost tool-making
machine and associated processes to rapidly produce plastic, ceramic, and
metal tools for use in automobile manufacturing. The Rapid ToolMaker™ will
provide the 0.1 percent accuracy required to transform 3D computer-aided
design (CAD) files directly into master tooling patterns that can be built
in hours or days instead of weeks by traditional methods. Materials
scientists at the University of Michigan and Penn State University will
provide technical support.

The Rapid ToolMaker system will produce accurate tooling patterns
with a superior finish and cost far less than current methods. Other
potential markets for the Rapid ToolMaker machine include the electronic,
appliance, aerospace, medical, and consumer product industries.

Sanders Prototype, Inc., the world leader in high-precision, rapid
prototyping systems, manufactures the ModelMaker™ system in Wilton, New
Hampshire, USA. Sanders Prototype sells and supports the ModelMaker product
worldwide through a network of high-quality resellers and its own sales and
technical service organization.
