In regards to the RP industry stalling as the market for large, expensive
machines with high maintenance needs saturates. I believe the Xerox process
also stalled eary. They overcame the finickey nature of the machines of
that time by leasing them. That way their own people kept them tuned and
updated in the customer's shop. As the hand-off and transportation times
become a greater percentage of the turn-around time, perhaps this might be
an option for RP suppliers. Perhaps there is also a parallel in the leasing
of IBM computers.
