RAPID PROTOTYPING AND RAPID TOOLING SEMINAR ANNOUNCEMENT

(Troy, NY)...The New York State Center for Advanced
Technology in Automation, Robotics, and Manufacturing at
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will host a one day
introductory seminar on Rapid Prototyping and Rapid Tooling
Wednesday March 26, 1997 in Troy, New York.

Rapid Prototyping and Rapid Tooling are emerging
technologies that can be applied throughout product development and
manufacturing to substantially reduce costs and lead time while
improving the quality of mechanical components and systems. Industry
case studies routinely report cost and time savings of 50% when
comparing these approaches to conventional methods. Increased
profitability and improved competitiveness are among the key incentives for
adopting these new technologies.

This seminar has been developed to provide a comprehensive overview of
Rapid Prototyping and Rapid Tooling technologies. Subjects to be discussed
at the seminar include: Rapid Prototyping and Rapid Tooling concepts and
process technologies; computer aided design (CAD) solid modeling;
reverse engineering; product data exchange; and materials issues.
Application case studies will be presented by an internationally
recognized leader in the field, and methods for accessing
these technologies will be discussed during a panel session with
regional service bureau representatives. A brief review of the
technologies emerging from R&D laboratories will also be given.

Vendor exhibits will provide participants with a chance to learn
about a variety of relevant products and services. Representatives
from nearly every major North American manufacturer of Rapid Prototyping
equipment will showcase sample parts and be available to discuss their
systems and capabilities.

The cost to attend is $195 for payments received before March
8, 1997, and $235 thereafter. Registration information can
be found on the world wide web at http://cat.rpi.edu/rpt or
can be requested by telephone, fax, or e-mail. Space is
limited.
