RE: History of .stl format

>From what I understand ".stl" is so called from STereoLithography, as it
was one of the first RP technologies, and the name just stuck. It's
like saying "Skil Saw" instead of "circular saw". Anyone please correct
me if I'm wrong, I'm interested as well.
