Dear Jim,

> Have any one out there heard about LENS and DLF?

LENS is Laser Engineered Net Shaping, under development at Sandia
National Labs in Albuqueque, New Mexico, USA. It is similar to a process
now called "Controlled Metal Build-Up" (CMB) developed at Fraunhofer IPT
in Aachen, Germany. Both of these processes deposit a stream of metallic
powder into the path of a laser beam aimed at a target position on the
object being built up. It is interesting work. The best current source
for both projects is the just-published proceedings of the Austin
conference, pages 125 and 141, respectively.
