We have evaluated the Rhino modeler and it looks pretty good. At least you can
download it free and try it out. I think the free Beta program expires at the
end of December. It looks like a good surface modeler with some solids. The big
test is being able to stitch a bunch of surfaces together to make a water-tight
model.
