There has been a flurry of questions concerning RP materials and
applications for the Medical Device Industry. This note is meant to
briefly inform all interested parties about SLS materials and
applications for this industry.
ú Medical Grade Fine Nylon
This new DTM SLS material is USP Level VI certified for limited
in-vivo exposure. The material is also sterilizable via autoclave.
Applications include conceptual prototyping of devices and
pre-operative planning aids. Difficult bone reconstructive surgery can
be planned after translation of either CAT scan or MRI data into an
.STL file. The file is then built in the DTM Sinterstation using
Medical Grade Fine Nylon.
ú TrueForm
TrueForm can be used as a pattern master for investment casting
medical devices. The cast components can then be used for clinical
trails, FDA testing or pre-production.
ú RapidSteel
We are investigating the production of wax pattern investment casting
molds using the DTM RapidTool direct metal process. These molds
should last the entire product life cycle of most medical devices.
Also, metal injection molds can be produced from the RapidTool process
for plastic medical instrumentation.
