The JP System 5 was developed at the University of Utah (Salt Lake City) and is
being marketed by Schroff Development, the makers of the low-cost ($995) CAD
solid modeling software called Silverscreen. I was told that the JP System 5
is being targeted at educational institutions for teaching the basic concepts
of building parts layer by layer. The process requires that you manually
position individual, so the system is not meant for production use. It
operates similarly to the Sparx system from Sweden if you're familiar with it.

The JP System 5 consists of a vinyl cutting plotter, software, and a
registration platform. I was told that students can build small parts, such as
a car key, screw driver handle or hand calculator, in under 3 hours using
0.005-inch sheets of label paper. Cool, huh! Heck, that's faster than an
SLA-1. :) Sorry, 3D, I couldn't resist. <grin> And the total part cost: only
$5. I guess that's because students are the last form of legal slavery. <g>

Hope this helps. I look forward to seeing you in Dayton!
Regards,
Terry Wohlers
