On the Discovery Channel last evening (12-13-94) there was a short (5 to 10
minute) coverage of stereolithography models used for sizing skull implants
for human skull repair. I believe it was on the "What's Next" program which
highlights the use of new technology in products, etc. It gave a short
description of the process, its general use, and some details of its use to
size a shull implant for a patient utilizing MRI data. It was reasonably well
done. No, I didn't have the presence of mind to record it. To be sure, the
implant was not made of stereo material. The skull was reproduced on stereo,
giving a technician the opportunity to size an insert made from an acceptable
material prior to the operation.
